Pinch A Palooza is perfect event for family & kids
Junior Crawfish eating contest, music, and activities
The 9th-annual Pinch A Palooza Festival & Crawfish-Eating Contest returns to the shores of Lake Pontchartrain for a day of family friendly fun! This festival celebrating Louisiana’s unique delicacy takes place all day Sunday, April 22—from noon to 8 p.m. at Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant in Bucktown. With over 5,000 pounds of boiled Louisiana crawfish, free live music, and a variety of activities for children and families, it’s the best family event of the festival season!
Kids Crawfish Eating Contest
For the second year in a row, Pinch A Palooza will host a Junior Crawfish Eating Contest, open to children age 6-12! Register your crawfish-loving kid to compete for the title of Deanie’s Pinch A Palooza 2018 Junior Champ. Contestants will have five minutes to peel and eat 3 lbs. of boiled crawfish. The crawfish eating competition for kids takes place at 1 p.m., with the winner receiving a Lil’ Bit Crawfish Boil Set and a year of Free Kids Meals at Deanie’s.
Kids can register the day of the event. Registration is $5 and includes a free Pinch A Palooza T-shirt.
Crawfish Races and other kids activities
Who doesn’t love a crawfish race? Children can select their mudbugs and line them up for an epic crawfish dash to the finish line. Cheer on the competing crustaceans from the sidelines, or get in there and pick a winner! The kids love getting up close and personal with the live crawfish, and prizes will be awarded to winners. Children can also play Crawfish Tic-Tac-Toe, get their faces painted, and visit and take photos with Pincher the Crawfish. There will also be free inflatables for the kids.
Family Friendly Live Music and Entertainment
This year’s Pinch A Palooza features some of the best local talent around New Orleans. The stellar lineup includes legendary local rock band Cowboy Mouth, New Orleans’ favorite cover band The Top Cats, rock/soul/funk band The Bucktown All-Stars, and Louisiana Hall of Fame inductee Vince Vance & The Valiants, plus actor/comedian Johnny Rock as emcee. Kids can dance along with the 610 Stompers, and work up an appetite for all the crawfish menu items available.
Food and Refreshments
At Pinch A Palooza, you can find Deanie’s crawfish specialties like crawfish nachos, crawfish balls, fried crawfish tails, crawfish étoufée, and thousands of pounds of fresh boiled Louisiana crawfish served with corn and potatoes for every member of the family to enjoy. For the less adventurous, an onsite food truck will serve up standards like burgers and chicken fingers. Some Pinch a Palooza attendees have even tried their very first crawfish at this festival… maybe your child or family member will, too!
Pinch A Palooza will have a convenient ATM van on site thanks to our sponsor Metairie Bank, as well as several portalets and hand-washing stations for our outdoor event. Tented seating is available, and lawn chairs are welcome. Please, no pets or outside food or drinks. Join us on April 22 at Deanie’s Seafood in Bucktown!
